Seller Throws in Unusual Incentive to Buyers

All the townhomes on Melanie Gravdal’s street looked similar and she was struggling to get hers to standout.
So she thought maybe “booze” might sweeten the deal.

Gravdal suggested to her real estate agent that they offer $1,000 in alcohol and food from a local pub as an incentive for a buyer of her 3-bedroom, $450,000 townhouse.  Her marketing twist: Drink for free at a bar across the street and make it home in seconds.

“We weren’t getting very much traffic because there was so much competition in the market,” Gravdal says about trying to sell the home before offering the incentive. “We live in a place where restaurants and bars come within walking distance so we thought this was a way to cross-promote the neighborhood and our homes.”

Since the offer, showings on the townhome have increased, and the nearby pub also is offering fliers about the for-sale townhome and the promotion.
